Created in 1986, this Regional natural park is meant to protect and emphasize the natural and cultural heritage of Haut Jura. The beauty of the landscapes, the traditional architecture, the rich flora and fauna, a certified agriculture, with reknown cheeses, the local know-how (spectacle making, lapidary, wooden toys…), the forestry work… Everything combines to make this territory extraordinary.
Six municipalities in Pays de Gex belong to the PNR: Crozet, Echenevex, Sergy, Thoiry, Vesancy, and Gex, one of the four city-doors.
To protect and emphasize the territory, several actions are undertaken, like the creation of the designation “Parc naturel regional du Jaut-Jura”, indicating the certified quality of agricultural products and craftsmen objects.
The know-how route (“route des savoir-faire”) will allow you to meet artists and craftsmen in our territory. For bicycle lovers, it is possible to buy or rent electric bicycles to discover the Haut-Jura heritage through various routes.
A stop in the House of the Park, in Lajoux, will allow children and adults to discover the permanent show: “Haut-Jura, living land”. There is a sound show and an exhibition that will stimulate your four senses…
